Meet Ivan Berra – Director of Hydrogeoex Ltd
I’m a geologist and hydrogeologist with more than 30 years of experience in New Zealand and overseas. My passion is helping communities, councils, and businesses make better water decisions by combining science, field expertise, and practical solutions.
Focus areas
- Groundwater and surface water investigations, including river–aquifer interactions
- Bore development, community water supplies, and compliance monitoring
- Resource consent applications for councils, industry, and landowners
- Environmental assessments and drone-based site mapping
Earlier in my career, I taught geology at the University of Brussels. I also worked offshore on seabed investigations for wind farm development in the North Sea. Later, I spent several years in West Africa and New Caledonia as an exploration geologist. My work included supervising drilling campaigns, geological mapping, resource modelling, and helicopter-supported surveys.
Since moving to New Zealand, I have focused on hydrogeology and environmental science. I support councils, farmers, and industry with sustainable water management projects. Much of my work involves understanding and managing the links between groundwater and surface water.
